Hello all -- The "Learning by Doing" approach works well and is
considerably enhanced by using the Personal Response System (PRS)
installed in a number of our classrooms. I have been doing this in
almost every lecture with up to 90 students in a class for the past two
semesters and am doing it again this spring. I find it works well and
that students buy into it. It takes some planning but it pays off. (And
some textbooks -- including mine -- are coming with materials already
prepared for this approach.) Would be happy to demo the PRS again
someday.
BTW, I did a similar thing without the response clickers for some
years, but using the clickers makes it much better. Students, and I,
get useful feedback on their progress.
