Hello Jim,

Thanks for sending your note concerning the proposed topic for the next Teaching Breakfast which, I think is February 7th as it appears in your subject header and not February 2nd. The reason for this note is to report that the site for former Provost Salin's paper is no longer active and the paper cannot be viewed there. If you know of an alternative place where it can be viewed let us know. I believe, along with yourself and members of our past and current administration that faculty professional development is critically important to the health of the faculty and to the success of the institution. I look forward to attending the Teaching Breakfast.

Mike

Subject: Agenda for Feb. 7 Teaching Breakfast

Back in December of 2004 the Advisory Task Force on Faculty Development, formed by then Provost of SUNY Peter Salins, published a Faculty Development Initiative paper for SUNY (see http://www.suny.edu/provost/FacultyDevelopmentReportdist10-26-05.doc). Since that time, a slow but steady ground swell has started in various places within SUNY trying to address that report's recommendations. For example, the University Faculty Senate of SUNY recently announced a Faculty Professional Development Conference - (see copy/paste below from their website at: http://www.suny.edu/facultySenate/. <http://www.suny.edu/facultySenate/> )

If you have time, please look over the report and conference agenda. I am very interested in your thoughts about this initiative and would like to have a discussion about it over coffee at our next TB on Feb. 2 at 8 am in Morris Hall. Thanks for your time and hope to see you then.
