Here is the essay portion of the exam for SUNY students and the tuition-paying parents:

You, or your loved one, is seeking either admission to graduate school and/or employment with a SUNY degree, and is necessarily competing for these opportunities with graduates from private research universities which emphasize research and other professional activities by faculty (e.g., Harvard, Yale, Temple, etc.), public research universities which emphasize research and other professional activities by faculty (e.g., University of California at Berkeley, the University of Virginia, etc. ) and private and public institutions which place emphasis on BOTH excellence in teaching and research and other professional activities by faculty (e.g., Ithaca College, Williams College, and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, etc. ).

How much attention and recognition to these factors would you have liked to have been devoted to research and other professional activities by faculty that dramatically impact the reputation of these degree-granting institutions, while applying for employment and/or admission to graduate programs?

A one question multiple-choice test for SUNY students and the parents who (mostly) pay to send them there.

1. A teacher at SUNY is being considered for tenure. Which of the following should be given the least weight in this decision.

a. The quality and effectiveness of teaching
b. The quality and effectiveness of advising and mentoring of students
c. Publication of six to eight articles on early Christian, Byzantine and medieval art in prestigious, peer-reviewed journals

I know how I would have answered as a parent whose children graduated from SUNY-Geneseo and SUNY-New Paltz. And its the same answer I would have given as a faculty member at SUNY-Oneonta.

I suspect that this is unusual only in that the woman involved is going to court to sue the college.
