In response to Janet's comment, showing students the reason for learning is at the heart of our job as professors.  Each of us can use techiques that works best for us.  I chose to get them involved in research that led to success knowing that we all tend to put effort into attaining successes.  Of course, taking them to glacier in Alaska was the icing (no pun intended).

Yes, it IS a good read. IT suggests to me that we need to find better ways to help students learn by showing them the reason (other than a test grade) that we are requiring our course content.  Would you agree?
