Dear Jack and Jim, thanks for your messages about your success with certain teaching techniques having to do with "Learning by Doing" and the use of "Clickers." I would be immensely grateful for explanation about PRECISELY what you did and suggestions as to how `i can incorporate your methods into my teaching! I'd like a primer on "What works and how can I incorporate (steal) your methods for my own classes. Thank you Janet -----Original Message----- From: Teaching Breakfast List on behalf of Greenberg, James ([log in to unmask]) Sent: Mon 1/26/2004 7:34 AM To: [log in to unmask] Cc: Subject: Posting to Teaching Breakfast List - Jack Kotz Hello all -- The "Learning by Doing" approach works well and is considerably enhanced by using the Personal Response System (PRS) installed in a number of our classrooms. I have been doing this in almost every lecture with up to 90 students in a class for the past two semesters and am doing it again this spring. I find it works well and that students buy into it. It takes some planning but it pays off. (And some textbooks -- including mine -- are coming with materials already prepared for this approach.) Would be happy to demo the PRS again someday. BTW, I did a similar thing without the response clickers for some years, but using the clickers makes it much better. Students, and I, get useful feedback on their progress.
