Jim,

I believe it would be beneficial to have an electronic discussion forum
related to general education assessment (GEAR) in order to facilitate
more discussion about this important issue. There is a significant lack
of knowledge and understanding about the assessment of academic programs
and specifically about general education on campus. This has helped
breed a palpable level of fear related to this issue. Furthermore, the
faculty are often asked to make decisions related to general ed
assessment under time pressure which magnifies any fears that may be
present. It is a recipe for making bad misinformed decisions.

Subject: GEAR Discussion Forum?

Tbers,

Do you think it would be constructive to establish an electronic
discussion
forum on GEAR? There is a web site for GEAR at
http://www.cortland.edu/gear/
But I don't see any forum for open discussion about it. What do you
think?
