Whew! Glad to hear our data are much better than what it says on the
web.

It's too bad that the published data are so far off in the wrong
direction! I wonder how that happened?!!

Tber's

Just a footnote to Jim's reference to retention rates.

The figure for 2003 ( 47.2%) refers to the class which entered 6 years
before and at that time the Freshman to Sophomore retention rate was
about 60%. This fall we estimate the retention rate of last years'
freshman to be 81%. Extrapolating from that, it will not be too long --
and we have already seen the six year increase % as we have retained
more freshmen -- to be over 50% and then eventually 62% plus.

Tbers,

Reminder that the first TB of the year will be Sept. 7 at 8 am in Morris
Hall. We will be talking about "student engagement". I'd be interested
in
hearing faculty thoughts on what they do, and what they think we can do
to
better engage our students. Steve Perry will be joining us.

On a related matter, a faculty member recently pointed out the website
www.collegeresults.org to me. It is very interesting. There are, for
example, graduation rates for all of the colleges in the U.S. If you
compare
SUNY Oneonta with like schools, (or other SUNYs) we don't look very
good.
I'm not sure which years this data is for or exactly how they get it,
but
thought you might want to look it over.
