Back in December of 2004 the Advisory Task Force on Faculty Development,
formed by then Provost of SUNY Peter Salins, published a Faculty Development
Initiative paper for SUNY (see
http://www.suny.edu/provost/FacultyDevelopmentReportdist10-26-05.doc).
Since that time, a slow but steady ground swell has started in various
places within SUNY trying to address that reportıs recommendations. For
example, the University Faculty Senate of SUNY recently announced a Faculty
Professional Development Conference - (see copy/paste below from their
website at: http://www.suny.edu/facultySenate/. )

If you have time, please look over the report and conference agenda. I am
very interested in your thoughts about this initiative and would like to
have a discussion about it over coffee at our next TB on Feb. 2 at 8 am in
Morris Hall. Thanks for your time and hope to see you then.
