Tbers, Please pass this along to any faculty you think might be interested. The TLTC at SUNY Oneonta has subscribed to a service from the American Association of Higher Education call the TLT Group. Their website is at www.tltgroup.org. As part of this subscription, faculty at SUNY Oneonta are entitled to have individual membership and take advantage of the information and resources offered through this group. Below this email, is an email from this group outlining some of their programs and resources. Please use them if they can help in your teaching. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask. As many of you know, Steve Gilbert had a surprise triple bypass surgery on February 29. (He'll only have to celebrate every four years!) He's doing very well and we're getting back on track. Sorry that we have been irregular in sending these subscriber messages. We hope this is our last interruption. We will also be sending you some very brief messages about events which crop up suddenly which we think you might be interested in. (These brief messages will also go to all individual members.) You may recall that your subscription entitles all faculty and staff at your institution to become Individual Members. They can sign themselves up or you can send us a list (preferably a spreadsheet) to keep them directly in the loop. One subscriber just signed a crew up - comprised of that institution's TLTR - and was grateful not to have to forward TLTGroup info every time it arrives. Those of you who are your institution's contacts will be signed up to be individual members. We hope this added benefit will make it more likely that you can use your institution's subscription benefits more effectively. Thanks for your attention and support, and thanks this winter for your get well wishes. But perhaps your institution awards grants to academic staff to improve courses. Or maybe you're considering starting such a program. There are at least two ways we could provide some help. Designing grant programs: Some institutions and systems create their own grant programs for improving courses, using internal funds or external grants or gifts. That makes sense to us for a variety of reasons. For example, there's evidence suggesting that instructors benefit from designing such proposals, even if they're not all funded. But how should such a program be designed? What might the request for proposals look like? What criteria should you use to evaluate proposals? How should you work with the faculty. For some ideas, click here (http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001bq5Rvl88sP25m6Im82kdQkL5dvLgliglDR6iIBwrCsdi9-Xz LfAg0GBM4pr5q805gVovyWf13-hrqiM33R-8LCaLKwU346agjx5GmeRApwH9Z2y1aBfw1hVMZy1u 7lE0jZfnodrqwPq0lui71JPvobPwJNcw_hKk). Evaluating grants: Want to help faculty learn how to evaluate their grants? The TLT Group can provide a workshop and materials for faculty who are designing evaluations for grants. Our specialty: grants that involve teaching and learning with technology. We can provide help from a half hour conversation (and almost all of our subscribing institutions have a half hour of prepaid consulting available) to a half day workshop to a full scale external evaluation of a major grant. For information, contact Sally Gilbert. (mailto:[log in to unmask]) We'll be putting more buried treasures in our future subscriber mailings! The event will be two- fold. First, I'll do a demonstration and discussion of Brief Hybrid Workshops; this will be followed by a new workshop geared to prepare facilitators of BHWs. This event will be free to subscribers and individual members, so I hope to see many of you there - at least those who are in the Philadelphia area. We are pleased to provide a new TLT Group Online Registration system that offers valuable features. You will now be able to create a TLT Group account and keep track of the events you have registered for and all payments you have made. The system will also allow you to create an account profile which will be saved, so you don't have to enter your profile each time you register. We'll be turning "on" the part of the system in which subscribers can keep their contacts, their expiration dates etc. current. It will probably take a couple weeks to work out the bugs, but we're sure it will be easier for you to stay in contact with us. If you have any questions about our new online system, please contact Lisa Star. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * Online Workshops Upcoming Workshops ePortfolios with Daren Cambridge and Steve Ehrmann begins today! The early months of 2008 were busy for both Steves, attending AAC&U's Annual Meeting, EDUCAUSE MidAtlantic meeting, Lilly South, and various consulting assignments at Old Dominion University, Regis College, and University of Alabama. Both Steves also did a variety of consulting and presenting online. Look for the Steves at these conferences this spring and summer: Association for Institutional Research Forum [AIR] in Seattle, NISOD Annual Meeting in Austin Texas, New Media Consortium in Princeton New Jersey, and MERLOT Annual in Minneapolis. In addition we'll be visiting many of our subscribing institutions, including the University of Alabama, Auburn University, and North Carolina State.
