Regarding a recent post to the TB list about a report on younger faculty, this was recently sent me: 

I think the Chronicle's report does not represent quite precisely the point of the Harvard study, which is to * challenge * the negative stereotype that Gen X profs are career-obsessed workaholics! (Unfortunately, the Chronicle's coverage reinforces the other negative stereotype that we are all slackers...)

The interview data on "quality over quantity," "efficiency" and "diminishing returns" are included in a section on "Defining Excellence," and how there are generational differences between younger and older faculty in terms of how they understand what it means to excel at one's work - which is not so surprising given how all-pervasive economic metaphors have become in all aspects of everyday experience (including family life)...
