Letters of Recommendation for Tenure Hi TBers,

 The Chronicle has run a number of articles on the “art” of writing good letters of recommendation  (one of my favorites at http://chronicle.com/article/How-to-Write-a-Good/45944 ).   My lousy grammar aside, I take seriously trying to write supportive, accurate letters that don’t sound like “Dr. Smith is the greatest academic of her generation”.    What do P and T committees REALLY want in a letter?
