Ed Tech for Student Engagement!

Monday, June 8, 2015

9:00 am - 3:00 pm in Craven Lounge, Morris Conference Center

Spend a day with your colleagues learning about educational technologies that can engage your students and improve their learning, while saving you time. The day will include 3 educational hands-on sessions where you ​can learn about and try out some of the educational technology tools, as well as lunch, a roundtable, and the opportunity to connect with colleagues.

8:45 am Continental Breakfast

9:00-9:30 am Technology to Motivate and Engage Students in Deep Learning.
This session provides a context for pedagogically appropriate use of technology to support student learning.

9:30-11:30 am Blackboard to Facilitate Student Learning in Face-to-Face, Enhanced and Online Classes.
This session is designed for faculty who have never used Blackboard or only used it in a limited way. Participants will learn how to efficiently organize classes and course materials, communicate with students, share course resources, manage student work, and increase student engagement. Join us to learn about effective ways to use Blackboard, conserve your time, and enhance student learning. We will discuss the basic concepts of instructional design principles and how to apply them to your course design.

11:30-11:45 am Break

11:45 am - 1:00 pm Lunch in LeCafe, Morris Conference Center

Roundtable discussion of classroom engagement techniques and the use of technology over lunch.

1:00-3:00 pm Collaborative Tools to Support Student Engagement
This session will demonstrate pedagogically appropriate technology tools to support teaching and learning. In this session we will address how to enable your students to become active learners and contribute to discussions. Learn how to respond to a variety of learning styles and individual students' needs by extending the conversation beyond the classroom walls.

Dr. Olena Zhadko will present this workshop. Olena is an Educational Technology Specialist and works as a Course Development Manager at New York Institute of Technology. Her areas of expertise include effective teaching strategies; pedagogically appropriate uses of technology, and collaborative and cooperative teaching and learning with technology.
