This is a reminder that we have a Teaching Breakfast outside of Starbucks in Hunt Union tomorrow, September 6, from 8 - 9:30am.  Bring your drink or grab something at Starbucks and come on over.  We will keep the conversation going till 9:30 so come any time in there that you can.

Here are a couple of articles that I thought might be interesting:

  1. What Students Say Is Good Teaching – This is an article from Inside Higher Ed about five undergraduate students’ descriptions of instructional practices that they’ve rarely encountered but were especially effective. 
  2. The College Trap: Introducing the Six Transition Traps that Destroy Learners – Here’s an article from The LearnWell Project describing some of the issues first year students have when transitioning to college.

 

I thought both of these articles do a good job of framing learning from the student’s perspective and would be useful as we start of the semester.
