Hello all!

I hope you are all well and staying sane in these extraordinary times. In an effort to have some consistency and normalcy (at least a little bit!) the TLTC and Faculty Center are holding Teaching Breakfasts Online every Thursday morning throughout the semester as a place to come together online to talk about the new modalities you are using to teach and hopefully share and get a few answers. Each Thursday we will meet online in our Teaching Breakfast Teams space from 8:30-10:00am. If you are free at all during this time, please feel free to join the conversation.

Teaching Breakfast Online is tomorrow, Thursday, October 8, from 8:30 - 10:00am. We will be connecting here: Join the Teaching Breakfast Online Teams Meeting<https://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join/19%3ameeting_MTc5NWIzMmMtNjY5YS00NTk4LTk4NmQtYWM1NDc5ZjQ5NGE1%40thread.v2/0?context=%7b%22Tid%22%3a%22b2c9b1a8-d1ad-4c9f-9172-728a8c08eb65%22%2c%22Oid%22%3a%22acdbd4c6-8ceb-4ccb-b54d-35c4ab20321f%22%7d>

Throughout the semester we will explore specific topics around online teaching and other teaching modalities. This week our topic is: "Continuing to Grade in a Pandemic"

In light of the switch to fully remote teaching and the continued rush to stay in front of our students, here are a couple of readings with things to think about during the pandemic:

  * Grading in a Pandemic (Still)<https://www.insidehighered.com/digital-learning/article/2020/08/12/many-colleges-will-return-normal-grading-fall-will-semester-be> - This article from Inside Higher Ed provides some perspectives on how different colleges have looked at assessment during the pandemic. It includes this list of "Do's and Do Not' s" [cid:image002.jpg@01D69CC5.53EA9060]
  * Assessment During a Crisis: Responding to a Global Pandemic<https://www.learningoutcomesassessment.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/2020-COVID-Survey.pdf> - This is the report mentioned in the above article from the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment. It's a long read, but I wanted to provide this as well as the link wasn't provided in the first article. The "Do's and Do Not's" section is pages 24-27 in the article.

I look forward to talking more about your experiences over the start of this semester and ways you are exploring assessment and grading as we near the mid-term grades. Look forward to seeing you Thursday if you can make it!
