As the end of the semester approaches, join Talking Teaching for Parting Ways: Tips for the Final Day of Class. We’ll come together for a conversation about concluding a course with a sense of purpose. We’re hoping this blog post, from Northern Illinois University’s Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning, will get us talking about some ways to look back, to move forward, and to say goodbye to the communities we’ve built this fall. For more inspiration, and some perspective on why endings matter, take a look at this frequently cited article from Tami Eggleston and Gabie Smith, “Parting Ways: Ending Your Course,” or at this Chronicle classic from James Lang, “What Will Students Remember From Your Class in 20 Years?

We’ll also use this time to reflect on our successes this semester—however large or small!—with a round of One Good Idea. Come ready to share one approach or strategy that worked well in your classroom this fall. We’re hoping that these takes will give others new ideas for spring and give us a chance to celebrate our efforts this year.

The Talking Teaching discussions are a space to connect and talk about what's new in the world of teaching and learning.  Each session will have a focus on a specific topic but can also be a space to talk about what is happening in the classroom and identify new modalities to explore.  This is our new iteration of the Teaching Breakfast.

We will continue to meet both in person and virtually, so if you feel comfortable participating in person, we'd love to have you in the room; if you would rather meet via Teams, join from your computer.   These sessions will continue to be a place to come together to talk about teaching and hopefully share a few questions and get a few answers.

Join us in person in the Oneonta Room (just past the Experiential Learning Center on the first floor of Hunt Union) or virtually in the Talking Teaching teams space.

We look discussing ways to help your students be more confident with their own learning in your classroom.  We hope to see you on Thursday morning for Talking Teaching (December 7) if you can make it!
