Recent research on the state of collegiate learning suggested that today’s students are “academically adrift.” At NEFDC’s Fall Conference, Josipa Roksa, co-author with Richard Arum, of Academically Adrift: Limited Learning on College Campuses (University of Chicago Press, 2011), will speak about the research behind the book and suggest ways to address two disturbing trends: loss of focus on academic rigor at many colleges and universities and declining academic performance of many undergraduates.

Josipa Roksa is Associate Professor of Sociology and Education at the University of Virginia. She is currently serving as Special Advisor to the Provost and Associate Director of the Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.

Registration: Early Bird Rates (before November 2, 2012): $135 (non members), $95 (members), $50 (students). Rates after November 2 2012: $165 (non members), $125 (members), $50 (students)

Hotel: A block of rooms has been reserved at a discounted rate for conference attendees on Thursday, November 15. The NEFDC group rate is $111 + tax, and includes a parking voucher for the garage across the street. Reservations must be made by October 23rd; after this date the rate is $169.
