Chilton,
Would this article be of interest to the TBS?

When it was not an option for the desperate or lazy to attempt in the dark, we were forced to confront together larger questions about the purpose of education, writes Joel Heng Hartse.

Subject: Reminder of Coffee Chat, TODAY, Wednesday, November 2 (2:00-3:00pm), Fitzelle Faculty Lounge, Room 159 or through Teams

Hello all!

I hope that the semester is continuing to go well and that you are able to have lots of meaningful learning experiences with your students. We are continuing to expand the Teaching Breakfast/Coffee Chat conversations by alternating weekly between the two options: Coffee Chat on Wednesday afternoons and Teaching Breakfast on Thursday mornings. We will continue to meet both in person and virtually, so if you feel comfortable participating in person, come on down; if you would rather meet via Teams, hop on your computer! These spaces will continue to be a place to come together to talk about new modalities you might be using to teach and hopefully share and get a few answers. This week we will be holding our Coffee Chat:

  * Coffee Chat, Wednesday afternoon, November 2, 2:00-3:00pm: Fitzelle Faculty Lounge, Room 159 and on the Fall 2022 Coffee Chat Teams space<https://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join/19%3ameeting_ZmI4ZDk0NzgtOGY2MS00YTQ5LWI1MzUtYmVmMmU0MTBjZTZi%40thread.v2/0?context=%7b%22Tid%22%3a%22b2c9b1a8-d1ad-4c9f-9172-728a8c08eb65%22%2c%22Oid%22%3a%22acdbd4c6-8ceb-4ccb-b54d-35c4ab20321f%22%7d>.

Our reading for this week lines up well with the recent Halloween festivities.

  1. 4 Classroom Lessons from Haunted Houses<https://www.chronicle.com/article/4-classroom-lessons-from-haunted-houses?cid=gen_sign_in> – This article from The Chronicle of Higher Education looks at some connections between the research on “recreational fear,” (the fun of being scared) and on learning and engagement. There are 4 interesting connections that explore how we can help students get into a better learning mindset.

Remember, you do have free access to the Chronicle of Higher Education through SUNY Oneonta. Here are the directions for creating your free Chronicle account<https://libguides.oneonta.edu/blog/Library-Resources-Chronicle-of-Higher-Education> if you don’t already have one (thank you Jen Jensen for sharing this!).

We look forward to hearing how you work with your students to get them focused on their learning. We hope to see you on this afternoon for Coffee Chat (November 2) if you can make it!
