Dear Jim, et al: I’ve been too busy to attend the teaching breakfasts this semester, but am cheered to hear of Jim’s anecdotal observations. There is hope—thank god! Laura D.

Hi All,

Not that personal anecdotes should be given too much weight, my three sons, who all grew up with smart phones and tablets are avid readers. The catch is, they don't read physical books as much as the read ebooks and other articles in electronic spaces. I consider them much better readers then when I was a young man. Given this, I'm not sure the death of reading can be attributed to the demise of the physical book. I think something else is going on - not sure what.

TBers,

This is a reminder that there is a Teaching Breakfast tomorrow (Mar. 29) from 8 to 9:30am outside Starbucks. Even if you can’t come right at 8am, come join the conversation. Hope to see you then!

Here’s an article you may find interesting about reading and digital media. Would love to hear your thoughts.

I look forward to seeing you tomorrow if possible! Come nurse your spring fever.

D.

Don't anthropomorphize computers. They hate that.
