TBers,

This is a reminder that we have a Teaching Breakfast outside of Starbucks in Hunt Union tomorrow, September 6, from 8 - 9:30am. Bring your drink or grab something at Starbucks and come on over. We will keep the conversation going till 9:30 so come any time in there that you can.
Here are a couple of articles that I thought might be interesting:

  1. What Students Say Is Good Teaching<https://www.insidehighered.com/advice/2018/09/04/tips-students-help-improve-your-teaching-opinion> - This is an article from Inside Higher Ed about five undergraduate students' descriptions of instructional practices that they've rarely encountered but were especially effective.
  2. The College Trap: Introducing the Six Transition Traps that Destroy Learners<https://www.thelearnwellprojects.com/thewell/avoiding-and-escaping-academic-transition-traps/> - Here's an article from The LearnWell Project describing some of the issues first year students have when transitioning to college.

I thought both of these articles do a good job of framing learning from the student's perspective and would be useful as we start of the semester.

I look forward to seeing you tomorrow if you can make it!

Chilton
